M&S profits almost wiped out after cyber hack hit sales

M&S Cyber Attack
M&S's profits were almost wiped out after a major cyber-attack left customers unable to buy online for months.
The company called the hack “an extraordinary moment in time,” as statutory profit before tax crashed 99% from £391.9m to £3.4m.
The attack disrupted both online orders and physical stores, leaving several shelves empty afterward.
M&S expects profits to pick up during the Christmas season, but says the recent Budget did not boost confidence among UK shoppers.
The retailer received £100m in insurance payouts—roughly equal to the damage so far—but expects more costs ahead.
On an adjusted basis, M&S made £184m profit in the first half, down from £413m the year before.
The company suspended online orders for nearly two months, while click-and-collect was unavailable for almost four months.
