Three days ago, the housewife ordered some vegetables through the quick commerce platform Zepto; however, she ended up getting larger eggplants instead of the ones she asked for.
• The delivery boy refused to take back the product
As she approached him to return the item and get her money back, he refused and suggested she contact customer support.
• She searched online for customer care and found a fake number
Since the delivery partner did not have the number, she navigated online and accidentally came across a person who gave her a different (fraudulent) number and asked her to call it for raising a complaint.
• The fraudster asked her to join a WhatsApp call
Upon calling, the woman was told she would receive a WhatsApp call for verification.
After sharing all information, the caller assured her that a refund had been processed.
• She received a link to “check the refund”
The caller sent her a link, and when she tried to log in, it asked for her bank account details.
• She entered her UPI password while checking refund status
After giving the details, the woman tried to check the refund balance with her UPI password. As no refund was generated, she again called the same number and was asked to check the balance of other accounts.
